From time to time it becomes necessary to change your network password. This is fairly easy to do, but sometimes it’s easy to forget how to do it, as it’s not an everyday occurrence. Below are some simple steps and tips for changing your network password.

  1. Decide in advance what you want your new password to be. Here are a few tips in this regard:
    1. Don’t make your new password similar to your old password. A common tactic of hackers is to try variations on your password (e.g Armgroup123, Armgroup124, etc.)
    2. Make your password as long as possible. The longer your password is, the less susceptible it is to hacking, due to entropy.
    3. Make it something that’s easy for you to remember, but doesn’t contain things that are easy to guess or find out about you (e.g. spouse’s name, where you work, etc.)
    4. Use a pass-phrase instead of a password:  BryanWisagreatguy21!   vs. BryanW21

  2. To change the password on your computer, make sure that you are connected to the company network (either in the office or connected via the VPN).  Next, press the Ctrl+Alt+Del key combination on your keyboard, then click on “Change a password”

3.Enter your current password in the 1st box, then enter your new password in the 2nd and 3rd boxes. Click on the arrow next to the 3rd box to accept the password change.

4. Once you have changed the network password on your computer, be sure to update your saved VPN credentials (instructions are on the ARM Helpdesk Knowledge base) and update your password in your email application on your mobile device.
